Perfectly organized and so much fun!

What a great tour! We chose to visit Edinburgh Castle with a guide and it was worth it. Our guide was fantastic, super knowledgeable, and fun to listen to. Everything was well organized and I liked that it didn’t feel rushed at all. The highlight for me was catching the 1 o’clock gun at the castle, it made the whole experience feel complete. Definitely something I’d recommend to anyone visiting Edinburgh!

Great whisky experience in Edinburgh!

Entertaining, educational, and so much fun! I discovered a lot about the world of whisky, and our guide made it even better with great stories. The tasting was the highlight for me. Loved the whole experience - a perfect mix of learning and fun.

The Hop-On Hop-Off tour is worth it!

Convenient and easy to hop on and off. We only had two days in Edinburgh and wanted to see as much as possible, so this was a great choice. We managed to go to all the places we planned. Very good value for the money.

FAQ - Edinburgh Tours

Which Edinburgh tours are a must?

If you take just one tour in Edinburgh, make it a guided Edinburgh Castle Tour. It is one of the most popular tours, and for good reason. Instead of just looking at the Crown Jewels or the Stone of Destiny, you’ll hear the interesting stories behind them. On your own, it’s easy to get lost in the crowds or just walk past things without knowing their importance.

What should I do if I only have one day in Edinburgh?

Get a feel of the city by joining an Edinburgh Walking Tour and visiting Edinburgh Castle. You’ll hear the city’s stories, explore hidden alleys, and finish at Scotland’s most famous landmark. If you have time, add a whisky tasting for an authentic Scottish experience.

What’s the best tour for families with kids?

Hop-On Hop-Off Edinburgh buses are a good choice because kids can rest between stops, and you’ll still see all the important sights. Edinburgh Castle tours are also family-friendly with lots to explore. For older kids and teens, the Harry Potter Tour Edinburgh is a fun way to see the city through the world of Hogwarts.

Can I do a whisky tour if I don't drink and don't know much about whisky?

Absolutely! Most whisky tours are beginner-friendly. Guides explain everything in a fun way, and tastings are about enjoying the experience, not showing off knowledge. If you already love whisky, you’ll appreciate the rare collections even more.

Why should I book my Edinburgh tour in advance?

Booking ahead saves you time, money, and stress. Popular tours like Edinburgh Castle Tour, ghost walks, and whisky tastings often sell out days in advance. That often happens in summer or during the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Buying early also means you’ll often get better prices and guaranteed skip-the-line access. If you wait until the last minute, you might miss out on the tour you really wanted or end up standing in long queues.

Should I use public transport in Edinburgh?

If you’re in the city center, you won’t need it much since most sights are close and walkable. For longer trips, buses and trams are affordable, easy to use, and reliable. Remember to wear comfortable shoes as Edinburgh is full of steep hills and cobbled streets.

Is Arthur’s Seat really worth the climb?

Absolutely. It is a popular hiking spot, not far from the city. This ancient volcano is about a 15-20 minute walk from the Royal Mile in Holyrood Park. The climb to the top takes around 45-60 minutes, depending on the trail and your pace. At the summit, you’ll be rewarded with panoramic views of Edinburgh, the coast, and the surrounding hills, one of the best viewpoints in the city.

Why are ghost tours so popular in Edinburgh?

Edinburgh has a dark past filled with plague, executions, and hidden underground vaults. Many of these places still exist today, and locals love to share the spooky stories linked to them. Edinburgh Ghost Tour takes you into old closes, graveyards, and tunnels you’d never discover on your own. The mix of real history and chilling legends makes those tours exciting and entertaining.

What is the best time to visit Edinburgh?

Spring (April–June) and early autumn (September) are ideal seasons, with mild weather and fewer tourists. Summer has long daylight hours and lots of festivals, but it’s also the busiest time of year. Winter is quieter and magical around Christmas, though it can be cold and windy. If you visit for Hogmanay, Edinburgh’s famous New Year celebration, you’ll see the city at its most festive.

Scotch Whisky Experience Edinburgh Scotland

Taste Scotland’s most famous drink

A whisky tour in Edinburgh is the best way to learn about Scotland’s most famous drink. You’ll discover how single malts are made, from production to maturation. You will also explore the unique flavours of Scotland’s five whisky regions. Guides make the experience fun and easy to follow, even if you’re new to whisky. One of the highlights is visiting a huge collection of rare bottles, where you can see almost 3,500 different whiskies in one place. You also get the chance to taste drams and compare flavours, from smooth and fruity to smoky and woody. The tours are interactive, educational, and relaxed, so it feels more like an experience than a lesson.

Edinburgh Walking Tour

A journey through Scottish history

A walking tour of Edinburgh’s Old Town is a chance to step into the city’s rich history. You’ll hear stories from ancient tribes and Picts to the traditions of men in kilts. On the way, you’ll see landmarks like St. Giles’ Cathedral and Edinburgh Castle. The tour takes you down famous streets such as the Royal Mile and colorful Victoria Street. You’ll also meet Greyfriars Bobby, the loyal dog, and hear the spooky tales of Greyfriars Cemetery. Harry Potter fans will enjoy seeing the places that inspired J.K. Rowling while she wrote her books.

Edinburgh Ghost Tour

Spooky streets and hidden vaults

Going on a ghost tour in Edinburgh is one of the most exciting ways to explore the city. With its dark history of plague, witch trials, and underground vaults, Edinburgh is often called one of the most haunted places in Europe. On a tour, guides bring these stories to life with a mix of history and spine-tingling legends. You’ll wander through dimly lit streets, hidden closes, and even descend into eerie underground chambers. It’s not just about scares; you also learn about real events and the people who lived through them. Whether you believe in ghosts or not, the atmosphere is unforgettable. A ghost tour shows you a side of Edinburgh you won’t see in the daylight.
