Such a fun experience!

I was pleasantly surprised by the Edinburgh Dungeon. I wasn’t expecting much, but I ended up having so much fun! I enjoyed exploring Mary King’s Close. Learning about Burke & Hare was also fascinating. The sets were detailed, and the mirror maze had me laughing and spinning. The special effects, like fog and lights, really added to the experience.

Creepy and funny

I really enjoyed the Cannibal’s Cave and Sawney Bean scenes. They were gross and funny at the same time! The anatomy theatre was creepy but so interesting, and the actors made it feel real. I also liked the Green Lady story at Old Craig House. The whole experience was full of surprises and kept me on edge. Definitely worth checking out!

Edinburgh Dungeon Tickets

START THE DUNGEON ADVENTURE

Begin your journey with Edinburgh Dungeon tickets and explore over 1,000 years of Scotland’s dark history. The tour begins in a recreated 17th-century courtroom. Here, the Judge Mental questions you about crimes like witchcraft or petty theft. You might be found guilty… or very guilty! Actors perform live in each scene, using period costumes and props. From the moment you enter, you feel like you’ve gone back in time. The sets are detailed, with fog and sound effects to make every corner and street feel real. This walk-through experience lasts about 70 minutes and includes 11 live shows. This makes it one of Edinburgh’s longest interactive experiences.

MEET ROGUES AND MONSTERS

Next, explore the darker corners of the dungeon. Face Agnes Finnie, Edinburgh’s notorious witch, in the Witch Pricker's interrogation room. Accused of witchcraft in 1645, she will try to convince you of your guilt. Then enter Sawney Bean’s lair from the 16th century. His cannibal family waits, and the lair stinks of leftovers from lost travelers. Step into the Anatomy Theatre. Here, Burke & Hare sold corpses to doctors for dissection in the 19th century. Visit Mary King’s Close, where you’ll meet the Foul Clenger, Edinburgh’s plague cleaner. There you’ll learn how to spot the signs of the plague. Itches in your sweaty bits or buboes could get you locked away! You'll also encounter the Green Lady of Old Craig House. The actors make every encounter feel authentic. You can spot all the details, like torture devices and period attire.

EXCITING FINALE

The final part of your experience includes the dungeon’s thrilling drop ride. The sudden free-fall will leave your heart racing. You’ll also go through the mirror maze. It has smoke and sound effects to confuse and excite. Each room uses realistic lighting, moving props, and 360-degree theming. By the end, you will have seen witches, cannibals, murderers, and ghosts. With Edinburgh Dungeon tickets, you get access to all this in one package. It’s a mix of history, theatre, and adrenaline that makes this tour extra exciting.

The legend of Sawney Bean

One of the scariest tales at the Edinburgh Dungeon is about Sawney Bean, Scotland’s famous cannibal. In the 16th century, Sawney, his wife, and their kids lived in a hidden sea cave along the Ayrshire coast. It is said that for over 25 years, they ambushed travelers, killed them, and ate their flesh for food. Some reports say the clan had almost 50 members. They killed over 1,000 victims before the King’s men caught them. Historians still argue about Sawney Bean's existence. Some think he was real, while others see him as propaganda. Still, the Cannibal’s Cave scene in the Edinburgh Dungeon keeps his terrifying tale alive.
