In 2011, archaeologists found a round feature under the earthworks. This suggests there may be an older structure below. For centuries, writers have connected Stirling Castle to King Arthur’s Round Table. Many accounts also suggest the Round Table was located right here. John Barbour in the 1300s and Sir David Lindsay in the 1500s both told stories of a round table at or near the castle. Today, the King’s Knot lets you imagine the legendary Round Table standing right where you walk.
